Higher Education is not just beneficial to us, as individuals, but to the wider market and society (Department of Business Innovations and Skills, 2013).  The skills that are gained from university are invaluable to graduates, for example the ability to research, analyse and interpret.  As well as academic skills university allows for personal development, gaining confidence in elements such as public speaking and networking.
This portfolio is a vehicle to provide evidence of academic, personal and professional development and will examine the goals that are set for the next two years to be able to develop further. Also, it will reflect on the 40-hour work placement that I completed during my second year of university. Within this portfolio will be a number of elements that are essential to professional development. These include a revised Curriculum Vita, a reflective piece on an application and interview process and a section on evidence-based practice in relation to my work placement. To conclude there is a detailed section on goal setting that revises goal written for this year as well as a new set of goals for the up coming academic year as well as after graduation. Bannigan and Moores’ (2009) Model of reflective practice will be used throughout, to be able to deconstruct critical moments within my 40-hour work placement as a way of gaining knowledge and understanding of situations.
